When you feel the need to get out of the house and reconnect with Mother Nature, there are a number of places to turn in South Carolina where a short and easy hike is sure to do the trick (see nine of those short hikes here). But few places can boast of the natural beauty and transformation that Lake Conastee and its 400-acre preserve along the Reedy River has experienced in recent decades.
Once an overgrown eyesore and complete mess, today this nature park is a wonderful escape only 13 minutes from downtown Greenville.
Welcome to Lake Conastee! Wear some comfortable walking shoes and prepare to be wowed by the awe-inspiring natural beauty of this nature park along the Reedy River.
Among the 13 miles of trails found in the park, the Lake Conastee Lake Bed Loop trail forms a near figure-eight that winds through 1.4 miles of hardwood forest and along the river.
Wildlife abounds within the preserve, and a reported 214 species of birds, alone, have been recorded. Expect to be in awe of the sights, the sounds, and the wildlife in this park near the city.
Including the Lake Bed Loop, the park offers six miles natural surface trails, six miles of paved trails, and a boardwalk that's just over 0.75 miles long.
Kiosks along the trails give insightful information into the biodiversity within the park as well as the many forms of wildlife that call the preserve home.
So come for the figure-eight Lake Conestee Lake Bed Loop, but plan to stay a little longer...
To see it all in this beautiful spot in the heart of the Upstate.
