South Carolina's State Parks offer a wide range of activities, including beach-side camping, trails and mountaintop overlooks with never-ending views, and days - even weeks - of getting back to nature with a little much needed R&R. It may be somewhat accurate to surmise that some of our state parks garner more attention than others, but that doesn't mean the lesser-known parks deserve less attention; the truth is quite the opposite. Case in point: Kings Mountain State Park, located in Blacksburg.
This little border park (because it's located so near the NC/SC border) has much to do and admire, including nearly 7,000 acres of outdoor recreation. Two lakes provide water access for fishing and boating. Lakeside picnic areas dole out gorgeous water views while you devour the goodies from your picnic basket.
A picturesque spillway from one of the lakes creates a back-to-nature soundtrack filled with running water to complete the lakeside experience.
Another very unique aspect of this South Carolina state park is a living history farm, complete with adorable creatures with which to interact, and even feed.
The working farm has buildings you can explore, fields you can watch being tendered, and an immersion experience of being on a 19th century working farm...
A cotton gin from the era rounds out some of the interesting learning experiences found on the living history farm.
The spacious campground has roomy sites that accommodate RVs up to 40 feet; electricity and water are standard with the site rental. Other sites are made primarily for tent camping and have no running water or electricity.
A whopping thirty miles of trails allow you to explore clearly marked paths that wind through this massive state park located in the Piedmont of South Carolina.
The park also offers equestrian paths, so you may find a few of those trails that you'll be sharing with these beautiful four-footed creatures.
A camp store is on-site for essentials and keepsakes of your trip.
