One of the best things about being from a state that's loved (and visited!) by so many tourists, is knowing secret insider info only locals and South Carolinians may have. For instance, knowing when to head to your favorite watering hole or beach in order to miss the crowds. As a native, you've undoubtedly figured out that hitting the beach doesn't always mean sharing it with thousands of strangers.
There are times when even the most popular beaches are secluded from loads of people enjoying the ocean breeze and hot summer sun: even on Hilton Head Island!
The 14-mile coastline that makes up Hilton Head has a variety of white sandy beaches and yes, there are times when they are not overflowing with people. You just have to know when, and where to go.
Coligny Beach Park is a favorite among visitors and locals, but there are still times during the summer season when you can show up and not find a massive amount of people.
The park offers a variety of amenities that make it a convenient place to access the white sandy beach on Hilton Head. Restrooms, changing rooms, and even nearby restaurants and shops add to the appeal.
But picking a time when it's not full of people can be a little tricky.
During season, try early in the morning... you'll be surprised how many people like to sleep in while on vacation. Locals know this and hit the sand often early in the day.
Another option for turning an otherwise busy beach into one that feels more secluded is to head there in the evening ‐ especially during the week.
Just by knowing the secrets that locals know, you can turn any South Carolina beach into a secluded oasis filled with pristine white sand, even busy Hilton Head Island.
What's your favorite South Carolina beach? We'd love to know!
