Editor's note: This property is a South Carolina State Historic Site, managed by South Carolina Parks & Recreation. They do not promote the site as haunted. Reports of hauntings at this site are taken from numerous accounts posted on the Internet, and are not confirmed by SCPRT. The one-night, after-dark flashlight tour of this property on October 31, 2017 did not promise the presence of ghosts or apparitions.
One of South Carolina's beloved historic sites is unsurprisingly haunted. Built in 1857 for one of the state's previous governors, John Hammond, Redcliffe Plantation is said to be visited by none other than Hammond himself — as he stands guard over his prized home.
The property is now a South Carolina State Park and you can visit any day of the week — DURING THE DAY. And you should. It's a beautiful property with much to see.
But this Halloween, you'll get the chance to see it by flashlight, and possibly come face-to-ghostly-face with the spirits that haunt this historic property.
It's one thing to wander freely in the daylight around someplace that's so famously haunted...
...but when the sun goes down on Halloween, this is your one opportunity to experience this state park in a whole new way.
Take a flashlight-powered, completely guided tour of Redcliffe Plantation for a spooky Halloween you won't soon forget.
Tour the inside of the house, where Hammond himself is said to still be present.
Are you brave enough to take a chance on being one of those people who report feeling someone's hand on their shoulder... when there's no one behind them?
Get an after dark shudder throughout your body as you tour the grounds, looking for the famous trio of trees planted in a triangular fashion; the spot where apparitions of Hammond have been seen by visitors.
This rare occasion is only happening for one night, this Halloween from 7:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and space is limited.
To register for the event, call (803) 827-1473 or email [email protected]. The cost is $10.00 for adults and $7.50 for South Carolina seniors.
Redcliffe Plantation State Historic Site is located at 181 Redcliffe Rd., Beech Island, SC 29842. What are your plans for Halloween? We'd love to know in our comments!
