The Cliff Walk in Newport is a stunning path that combines ocean views with opulent mansions. There is no doubt that the walk is absolutely awe-inspiring. But after you've strolled along this National Recreation Trail a handful of times you might consider exploring these other waterfront walkways in Rhode Island for a change of scenery.
1. Fort Adams Bay Walk
This stroll along the bay is a 2.5-mile loop around Fort Adams. Enjoy the breezy scenery of the waterfront along with the historical walls of the old fort as you travel along. Find the Fort Adams Bay Walk in the state park located at 80 Fort Adams Dr., Newport, RI 02840.
2. Sachuest Point
Sachuest National Wildlife Refuge is one of Rhody's treasures. Enjoy a 2.4-mile loop trail most of which is ocean front. Afterward you'll understand why so many locals call this spot their favorite place to take a walk. Visit this natural oasis at 769 Sachuest Point Rd., Middletown, RI 02842.
3. Providence Riverwalk
Find yourself in the city and you must stroll down the Providence Riverwalk. The combination of the amazing architecture alongside the river ensures you'll never run out of sights to see. 4. Rocky Point
For decades Rocky Point Park was a destination for tourists who loved amusement rides and clambakes. The former amusement park is now a state park and is home to a gorgeous 1-mile long asphalt walking path. Drink in amazing views of the Narragansett Bay while you stretch your legs. 5. Newport Harbor Walk
Because the Newport Harbor Walk is in the same city as the Cliff Walk it is an underrated waterfront stroll. Divided into two sections, the Harbor Walk North begins at Storer Park goes to Goat Island and through the Point Section and is just under three miles long. Stroll the Harbor Walk South from Stone Pier at King Park to the Newport Shipyard for a sightseers dream. This section is four miles round trip. 6. East Bay Bike Path
At 14.5 miles long, the East Bay Bike Path is a most impressive paved walkway. Though not all of it is waterfront, many sections hug the coastline of the bay giving way to glorious scenic views. The path stretches from India Point Park in Providence to Independence Park in Bristol.
