Every state has its share of tragic and mysterious happenings. Rhode Island is no exception, and the state has many cases that are still unresolved to this day. The following are five unsolved crimes that still baffle state detectives.

5. Bryan Nisenfeld

On February 6th, 1997, Bryan Nisenfeld left his class at Roger Williams University and mysteriously disappeared. With reports of Bryan having a difficult time as a college freshmen, it was first suspected that he had left school. Sadly, several months later, human remains found along a beach near the campus were positively identified as a match. The cause of death has yet to be discovered, but possible theories include an accidental slip while walking around a rocky beach near campus, death from suicide, or murder from a potential suspect.

4. Amon Jamiel

For many years Amon Jamiel owned a successful shop in Warren until he began noticing discrepancies in the books and missing cash. Matters became worse when a large sum of money was stolen from the shop. Just two months later in 1978, the building mysteriously burned down and Amon was found murdered in his home. The identity of the shooter is still unknown.

3. Christina Cole

While each of these cases are unique and carry their own emotional weight, unsolved crimes involving children are often the most difficult to discuss. Christina had just turned ten when she went missing in 1988. What was supposed to be a short walk to retrieve milk from the corner store turned tragic when her body was discovered at Conimicut Point in Warwick just two days later. Her death did not have enough evidence to be ruled a homicide, but is still considered a cold case as several other children went missing in the same time period.

2. Michelle Norris

Another cold case involving a young girl still remains unsolved in Rhode Island from the same year. Seven year old Michelle Norris went missing from her elementary school in Central Falls. Just days later her body was discovered on Brook Street. Decades later, authorities and Michelle's loved ones still seek answers.

1. Adam Emery

This might be the most bizarre case on this list. Adam Emery, his wife Elena Emery, and two friends were at a roadside food stand when their car was side swiped. Adam became distraught and followed who he believed to have struck his vehicle. After successfully causing the other car to stop, witness accounts say Adam ran to the driver's side and fatally stabbed the driver, 20 year old Jay Bass through the heart. Further investigation proved that not only had Adam followed the wrong car, but he showed little to no remorse for his actions. After being convicted of second degree murder for the crime in 1993, the couple's abandoned vehicle was found on the Newport Bridge and the pair were suspected to have died by suicide. Though Elena's remains were eventually discovered, Adam's body has not been found and he remains on the FBI's most wanted list.
