The holidays are here, and for many of us that means visitors from out of town. If you have family visiting from out of state, you might feel some pressure to show them the best of what the Ocean State has to offer. Consider our list your starting point – these iconic sights are sure to please visitors who want to see Little Rhody at its finest, and they're all still lovely in the winter.
1. The Breakers, Newport
The Vanderbilts' summer cottage is perhaps the most iconic of the Newport mansions, and visitors to the state are sure to enjoy a visit – especially when it's decorated for the holidays. Learn more here.
2. Narragansett
This gorgeous coastal town has plenty of interesting history, beautiful beaches, and great dining – take your guests there for a day and they're sure to fall in love. Learn more here.
3. Beavertail State Park
Rhode Island is home to many lighthouses, but we think the lighthouse at Beavertail State Park in Jamestown is special – and the whole park is gorgeous to tour. Learn more here.
4. Flying Horse Carousel, Westerly
If you have any kids visiting, they'll love a ride on this historic carousel. You can find it in Westerly's Watch Hill, at the beach end of Bay Street.
5. Block Island
Granted, this one is a little bit more of a time commitment, but Block Island shows the wilder side of Rhode Island, and also proves that Martha's Vineyard and Nantucket have nothing on us. It's quiet and starkly beautiful in the winter. Learn more here.
6. Bristol
For classic colonial streets, a gorgeous harbor, and plenty of maritime history, visit Bristol. This town has something for everyone, from the Herreshoff Museum to shopping and dining. Learn more here.
7. Napatree Point, Westerly
The southern and westernmost point in Rhode Island, this gorgeous beach has seriously amazing views. Obviously it's too cold to swim this time of year (unless you are very brave!) but it's the perfect beach for a winter walk. Learn more here.
8. Lippitt House Museum, Providence
You don't need to go all the way to Newport to find a grand, historic house! This 1865 mansion in Providence is now a gorgeous museum that you'll love exploring. Find out more here.
