The Canonchet Farm Trail offers lovely views of the Pettaquamscutt River, or as it is often called locally, Narrow River. The Canonchet Farm Trail is located in Narragansett, Rhode Island, stretching out towards the shores of the Narrow River.
The Canonchet Farm Trail is an out and back trail, from 1.3 miles to just over 2 miles long, depending on where you start, and if you take the offshoot loops. You can park off of Kingstown Road/Route 1A by the Community Center, or across from the Narragansett Town Beach – turn on Annie Hoxsie Lane from Route 1A.

The trail is shaded by the canopy of trees. Sometimes you will cross boardwalks and bridges, other times you will walk on a groomed dirt path.
This parcel of land was originally the Robinson Farm until Governor Sprague and his wife purchased it in 1850 and built a mansion. In 1909 the house burned down, though remnants of the stone stable are still visible. Of the 175-acre property, 165 acres are now owned by the city, of which the South County Museum leases eight. The remaining 10 acres are owned by the John H. Chafee Wildlife Refuge.
Canonchet Farm is home to many plants and animals, including deer and osprey.
Near the museum, you can also visit a small cemetery, and sheep in the barnyard, if you choose to do so.
No matter what time of year you walk the trail, you will be treated to a unique view of the river and surrounding area, different from the last time you visited.

Why We Love It: It's taken several trips for me to figure out my perfect "weekender bag that's TSA approved," but I've found my perfect carry on with the TOBIQ Colorado 30L. Why I Love It: Fact: Airplanes are notoriously dry, dry, dry. No matter how much water I drink both before and during the flight, I always find myself in a hydration deficit for days. Give me a chance to spend time, even just a few minutes, around animals, and I'm in, even if it means going off the beaten path a bit. Even catching a glimpse of an animal - a deer standing on the side of a rural road as I drive by, for example - is enough to make the day that much better. Next time you're on Block Island, head over to Abrams Animal Farm. You won't need a whole lot of time at this animal farm in Rhode Island, but there's a pretty good chance you'll have a ton of fun, smile the whole time, and make memories. You might even make a new four-legged friend or two.

A trip to New Shoreham on Block Island wouldn't be complete, at least for animal lovers, without a quick stop at Abrams Animal Farm, which sits across from the 1661 Inn.
