A day on the sandy shore, especially during the peak season, can get pretty hectic, especially at the more popular beaches. While we can't go wrong with spending a leisurely day at the most well-known beaches in Rhode Island, we all have those days when we want quiet, away from the noise of the crowds. That's just what we'll find at Vaill, Beach, arguably the most remote beach in Rhode Island.
We have a bit of a trek - well, more like a ferry or boat ride - to reach Vaill Beach, a remote spot that's hidden on Block Island.
While most visitors spend their time on Block Island sailing, marveling at the views from Mohegan Bluffs, and posing for photos with the island's two lighthouses, those in the know journey to Vaill Beach.
Vaill Beach is tucked behind Mohegan Bluffs.
To reach the path that leads to the secluded beach, keep an eye out for Painted Rock on Snake Hole Road. Just across the street, you'll find the start of the trail.
There is parking here, but it is extremely limited so keep that in mind when setting off.
Don't expect a typical beach day at Vaill Beach; the shore is rocky, so it's not really conducive to sunbathing. Still, you'll find plenty to do.
Because it's so private, you likely won't run into many others at this beach that's popular with surfers. If you plan to swim, be very careful as there are a lot of rocks and the surf is typically rough.
Beachcombing for glass floats is a popular pastime at Vaill Beach, and you'll have plenty of space to explore. (The beach itself stretches less than half a mile.)
The chiseled rocks are just part of the breathtaking scenery that awaits at this secluded spot.
If you can swing it, try to catch a sunset. Some say that Vaill Beach has the most spellbinding sunsets on Block Island.
