Rhode Island may not have the massive mountain hikes that other states do, but you'll still find plenty of fantastic nature trails here. It's hard to say what the overall best hike in Rhode Island would be, but we do know that the Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge Trail is a top contender. This nice, pleasant peninsula hike offers some of the Ocean State's most stunning views.
The Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge is located in the southeasternmost part of the town of Middletown
The refuge is home to some beautiful birds, and it just so happens to have an easy-to-find trail that winds you around it.
The official Sachuest Point National Wildlife Refuge Trail is about 2.4 miles in length.
It's a loop trail, and it's a great option for hikers of all skill levels.
The path is well-marked, easy to find, and easy to follow -- and that's a good thing, because you'll be on the lookout for wildlife.
Depending on the season, you might spot loons, eiders, and harlequin ducks. It also isn't uncommon to spot deer or even coyotes at the refuge.
Before you know it, you'll be at the edge of the water.
There's nothing like enjoying the sounds of the waves crashing all around you.
Sachuest Point is pretty isolated, which is one of its most appealing qualities.
When you truly need to get away from it all, this is the best place to be.
The best part about this trail is that it's equally as lovely in the spring, summer, and fall.
The wildlife refuge doesn't close for the winter, but weather conditions can sometimes make it rather unpleasant to attempt.
This quiet, isolated loop happens to be one of Rhode Island's best kept secrets... at least, to those who don't call Rhody home.
The views really don't get better than this.
