Finding really remote places - such as the Bowdish Reservoir - can be downright difficult sometimes. However, when you're craving some quiet time to just relax and recharge, you'll quickly discover that out of all the lakes in Rhode Island, this one just might be the most idyllic destination. In fact, you'll likely feel as though you're miles and miles from the hectic pace of everyday life.
Little else can cure stress like a day at Bowdish Reservoir, a vibrant body of water that's nestled in George Washington State Campground and Management Area.
Perhaps the best way to appreciate the peacefulness of Bowdish Lake is to camp on its shore. This is one of the most peaceful camping areas in Rhode Island.
The campground is small, offering just 45 gravel sites. However, you can pitch a tent, or park your RV or trailer.
Campsites are spaced far enough apart to give you plenty of peace and quiet.
You have several ways to explore the lake. Launch your boat into the sometimes choppy water, or go kayaking or canoeing.
Expect to run into local wildlife, especially if you do a bit more exploring beyond the reservoir.
A 9.3-mile hiking trail also leads to the water. However, be prepared for a challenge as the North-South Trail and Center Trail to Bowdish Reservoir have scored a moderate rating.
Still, it's worth it for the sights along the way, including picturesque boardwalks and vibrant wildflowers.
Whether you're hiking or lounging on the shore, lather on the bug spray. The area can get really buggy, especially during the warmer months.
