Remember the summers of long ago - when we were kids with not a care in the world? Summer vacation meant staying up til the wee hours of the morning, waking up late, and having hour after hour free to do as we please. One of the highlights of those carefree summer days was, undoubtedly, heading to our favorite swimming hole in Rhode Island to cool off, soak up the sun, and to hang out with friends and family.
We can find beautiful swimming holes just about anywhere we go in Rhode Island, whether we want to cool off in the ocean or head to a pristine lake or pond.
The sandy beach at Governor John Notte Park in North Providence leads into the crisp water of the West River.
Although it's somewhat overlooked in lieu of other Rhode Island swimming holes, this gorgeous beach offers plenty of room to relax.
While you'll definitely want to take precautions in the water, lifeguards are on duty beginning on July 1.
The beach is just a fraction of the summertime fun that awaits at the sprawling park. Paddleboard rentals are available and offer a fun way to explore the water.
You might also want to go for a leisurely stroll, especially if it's your first visit to this pretty park.
You'll find plenty of benches on which to sit and enjoy the scenery. Picnic tables make it easy to have a leisurely meal.
When the kiddos tire of playing in the water, relax as they go crazy at the playground - swinging, sliding, and running around.
You might also want to play a game or two of tennis at this park that promises something for everyone in the family.
Visit the North Providence website for more information.
