A day on the water is time well spent whether we're kayaking or fishing. We can do both on Carbuncle Pond, a hidden gem lake in Coventry, Rhode Island, that's a prime spot for outdoor lovers and, in particular, those who want to cast a line and hopefully leave with lunch or dinner. Even if you're not into fishing, you'll find that floating on this circular pond promises plenty of quiet and relaxation.
You don't need a boat or a kayak to fish in the 39-arce Carbuncle Pond, nestled in the spacious Nicholas Farm Management Area in Coventry. Just head for the accessible fishing pier.
Two gravel parking lots near the pond provide ample parking space for visitors. The first of the two parking lots is by the fishing pier while the second sits near the boat ramp.
If you opt to fish from the water, you'll find a concrete boat ramp that is not handicap accessible.
The pond is typically stocked with trout, including rainbow and brown. You might also catch largemouth bass, yellow perch, and bluegill.
This is one of those fishing spots in Rhode Island where you can fish all year round. Breathtaking foliage will greet you in the fall, and ice fishing is popular during the winter.
No matter when you visit, you might be able to catch a beautiful sunrise or sunset.
While Carbuncle Pond is one of the places to go for fishing, carve out some time to explore Nicholas Farm Management Area, too, on one of its scenic hiking trails.
