Rhode Island is home to gorgeous vistas everywhere you turn. And, some areas that are downright jaw-dropping. One of those is Mohegan Bluffs on Block Island, a geological wonder that will blow your mind the first time you see it. If you want to get to the beach, be prepared for a serious amount of stairs - 141 to be exact. But the reward is well worth the effort. Take a look at the beauty and majesty Mohegan Bluffs.

The Bluffs soar high above the pounding surf.

There are 141 stairs to get down the 200 feet to the beach.
You also have to scramble over some rocks when you get to the bottom, not for the weak of heart, but the payoff is worth it.
There's a secluded, rocky beach that's a popular spot to swim and surf.
The Mohegan Bluffs are on the Southern End of the island, leading up to the Southeast Lighthouse.

Visitors leave hundreds of these rock towers, some tiny, some huge.
The Bluffs got their name from an Native American battle.
In the mid 16th century, a battle between the Niantic and Mohegan tribes took place. It ended with the native Niantics driving the invading Mohegans over the cliff to their deaths. Yep. That happened.

It was designated a National HistoricLandmark in 1997.
America's only off-shore wind farm is located off Mohegan Bluffs.
The windmills became active in 2016, and provide clean electricity for all of Block Island, and the mainland when needed via a giant cable on the ocean floor.

Get to Mohegan Bluffs via ferry or plane. Sail away on the Block Island ferry all year long out of Pt. Judith. The 12-minute flight leaves from Westerly. The Mohegan Bluffs are a Rhode Island geological wonder that's not to be missed.
