One of the many perks of Rhode Island life is its close proximity to so many white sandy beaches. And if it's been awhile since you've spent time at Easton's Beach, pay it a visit as soon as possible. Not only is it a beautiful place to spend the day, it's brimming with local history.
Easton's Beach, otherwise known as First Beach, is located on Memorial Boulevard at the start of the Cliff Walk.
This 3/4 mile long surf beach is a total treasure.
Easton's Beach was once the site of an impressive amusement park and community.
In the 1920s, the area was well equipped with all the beach town amenities. But sadly, it was all wiped away by a hurricane in 1938.
While the amusement park is long gone, these days, Easton's Beach is a top surfing spot.
Not only is it Newport's largest public ocean surf beach, it's a perfect place for some good old-fashioned oceanside lounging.
The boardwalk is perfect for strolling, people watching, and enjoying a nice lobster roll.
There are several great eateries in the area as well as the infamous Cliff Walk. The rental shop, Rosie's Beach Store, has boogie boards, beach chairs, and anything else you may have forgotten.
While the beach definitely sees its share of surfers and swimmers, especially on hot summer days, you'll find that it's often less crowded than some of Rhode Island's other beaches.
Go during the week, early in the day, and you just might have long stretches of sand to yourself.
Easton's Beach is a timeless treasure we're lucky to have here in Rhode Island.
And there's still plenty of summer left to soak up the sun here.
