Portland is an outdoor lovers paradise. There are miles upon miles of trails waiting to be explored right in the city, as well as an expansive region of trails all around us. Here are some of the best local trails, along with some regional ones as well. Whether you want to stay in the city or travel a little ways out for some epic scenery, you should definitely check out these great hikes if you love to explore the outdoors.
1. Wildwood Trail
Snaking through Forest Park, this 30-mile trail is one of the country's longest. Hike a portion, or tackle the entire length for a stunning glimpse of Northwest scenery.
2. Marquam Nature Park Loop
This 3.8-mile hike takes you in a serene loop around this nature park that was saved by local community members in the 1960s.
3. Tryon Creek State Park Loop
Take the outer loop through the park for a 5.7-mile trek through this urban forest.
4. Warrior Point Trail
This 7-mile hike on the northern tip of Sauvie Island leads you to the Warrior Point Lighthouse across flat and easy terrain.
5. Mt Tabor Blue Trail
Mt. Tabor is a hiking favorite and the blue trail is a great way to see the entire park. Leading you past three reservoirs and the top of the extinct volcano, this 3.3 mile trail is a great introduction to hiking in the city.
6. Dog Mountain
Spring is a great time to take this 6.9-mile hike, as wildflower blooms are impressive. The trail is steep, so be ready for a decent climb, but you will be rewarded with epic views.
7. Opal Pool and Cedar Flats Hike
Pass through an old mining town and cedar grove on this 10.5-mile hike.
8. Multnomah-Wahkeena Loop Hike
Beginning at the Multnomah Falls Lodge, this hike takes you by 10 stunning waterfalls.
9. Cooper Spur Trail
Enjoy stunning views of Mt Hood on its highest trail hike. Leading to a stone structure from the 1930s, this trail is 6.4 miles.
