Spring has finally sprung. And, while we might have some of those annoying winter days hanging around, we'll be basking in the warmth of spring before we know it. With the warm temperatures and golden sunshine also comes the blossoming flowers and budding trees. Slip on your comfiest shoes for a delightful stroll through this spectacular wildflower reserve near Pittsburgh.
Spend a leisurely spring day among the blossoming wildflowers at Raccoon Creek State Park's Wildflower Reserve in Hookstown.

The 314-acre wildflower reserve itself. Bring your smartphone or camera along to snap photos of some of the more than 700 flower and plant species that make their home in the reserve.
Of course, you might want to start your journey with a stop at the Wildflower Reserve Interpretive Center, where you can learn more about the many flowers and plants in the reserve.
Then, set off on one of the trails that leads through the reserve, such as the Jennings Trail and the Audubon Trail.
As you admire the blossoming wildflowers, keep a few rules in mind. Do not pick any of the flowers. And, only walk or hike along the trails. Motorized vehicles and bikes are prohibited.
But, for your best chance to see the wildflower reserve in full bloom, visit between the end of April and the beginning of May.
Can't make it then? Good news. Peak bloom also occurs from August through the beginning of September.
