Stretched across 55 cozy acres, Norman's Orchard in Tarentum offers a picture-perfect backdrop for ushering in the fall.
Wear a pair of comfy shoes for your journey into the apple orchard, where you can climb a ladder and pick the freshest apples anywhere.
A popular destination since the late 1950s, Norman's Orchard offers a fun and relaxing way to spend an hour or two. Started and run by Ken Norman until his death, the orchard is now headed by Jeff and Leslie Norman.
The season generally begins in mid-June and runs until November or whenever all of the apples have been picked.
Norman's Orchard grows more than two dozen apple varieties, the majority of them heirloom. You'll find such popular apple varieties as Gala, Red Delicious, Honeycrisp, and Empire.
Fill your basket up with other classics, too - Albemarle Pippin, York Imperial, and Arkansas Black, for example. You can learn more about each type of apple and how they are best used on the orchard's website.
Norman's Orchard is the place to go if you want to pick cherries, blueberries, grapes, and pears, too.
Don't forget to pick up Norman Orchard's famous apple butter and honey that's made locally.
