As summer sizzles, we’re always on the lookout for ways to stay cool. While A/C does the trick, we don’t always want to be stuck indoors, especially when the sun is shining in a cloudless sky. Sandcastle Waterpark, SoakZone, and neighborhood pools all promise fun ways to cool down. However, for a really unique adventure, make a beeline to this natural waterpark near Pittsburgh.
Don’t expect a whole lot of attractions at this natural waterpark near Pittsburgh. In fact, you’ll have just one attraction, but it is epic.
Wear your swimsuit (maybe even bring a pair of water shoes) for your journeys down the natural waterslides at Ohiopyle State Park, less than 90 minutes from downtown Pittsburgh.
To get to the area of the state park that's home to the two natural waterslides, look for the parking lot near the State Route 381 bridge. After you’ve parked, just follow the path behind the lot.
Meadow Run Natural Waterslides can get really busy, especially on hot summer days, and you’ll definitely want to take precautions. There are no lifeguards.
Expect to possibly get bumps and bruises, too, as you zip down the sheets of sandstone that are millions of years old. If you’re not up for slipping down the waterslides, you can watch others as they slide from a nearby observation deck.
You might even want to bring along a picnic to make a day of it. Once you’ve thoroughly cooled down, consider doing a little more exploring.
Cucumber Falls is an easy-to-reach waterfall that you can view overhead, or walk down wooden stairs to reach the base. Walk behind the beautiful cascade to feel the water’s mist, another way to cool down on a hot summer day.
