Today, however, let’s venture beyond Allegheny County’s borders to indulge in some of the very best burgers along the burger trail near Pittsburgh. Every time you visit one of the restaurants, ask for a sticker that you will then add to your passport. After you’ve filled your passport, you’ll receive a free t-shirt.
1. Ben Franklin’s Tap Room, Grill, & Bottle Shop
At the top of the lineup on the burger trail is Ben Franklin’s Tap Room Grill & Bottle Shop, where you can choose from five different burgers. For a classic burger, order the All American Cheese Burger, or spice things up with the Hells Hollow Burger.
2. Grill on the Hill
If you waffle when it comes to making decisions, you’re in for one heck of a challenge at Grill on the Hill. There, you’ll have more than a dozen types of burgers from which to choose. Stick with the classic cheeseburger, or go for something a little more exotic like the deep fried cheeseburger.
3. The Crane Room Grille
Our next stop takes us to a delicious restaurant and brewery. We’re here for the burgers, though, and you’ve got quite a few choices. Sink your teeth into the traditional cheeseburger or the mushroom and Swiss burger. For something a little more daring, try the blue cheese burger or the Mediterranean Greek Burger.
4. Palate Restaurant
Eat in or order take out at Palate, which boasts a quarter-pound burger and a half-pound burger piled high with your favorite toppings. Burgers come with fresh, golden fries or a crispy mixed green salad. (Palate Restaurant is listed as a FREEBIE on the passport.)
5. Hazel’s Restaurant
Don’t forget to get your passport stamped at Hazel’s Restaurant. The charming eatery serves several delicious burgers, including the classic quarter-pound cheeseburger and the half-pound mushroom mozzarella burger. Pair your burger with such scrumptious sides like French fries, onion rings, or home fries.
6. Riardo’s Bar & Grill
Up next we head to Riardo’s Bar & Grill. Dig into such tasty burgers as the BBQ burger, the breakfast burger, or the mushroom and Swiss burger. Craving a meaty taste without the actual meat? Order the Impossible Burger, a vegan burger with all of your favorite toppings.
7. Hill House Restaurant
Sure, you can have the classic burger at Hill House Restaurant. If you’re in the mood to mix things up, however, try one of the more unique burgers, such as the pizza burger, the chopped steak burger, or the western burger.
8. Tavern on the Square
Get ready for a quaint dining experience at the charming Tavern on the Square, famous for their homemade sticky buns. Build your own burger at the restaurant, adding such popular toppings as tomatoes, lettuce, and pickles.
