Allegheny County is home to a lone named waterfall - Fall Run Falls in Glenshaw - but we're still within a reasonable distance from quite a few gorgeous cascades. While Ohiopyle Falls and Cucumber Falls are both popular and extremely easy to find, Springfield Falls is a bit more of a hidden waterfall near Pittsburgh. However, it's well worth the drive to check it out. You may even have it all to yourself when you visit.
About an hour north of downtown Pittsburgh, Springfield Falls provides a picture-perfect backdrop for a leisurely day out.
The easiest way to find Springfield Falls is to add these coordinates to your GPS: 41.1439° N, 80.2215° W.
If you follow the GPS coordinates, you shouldn't have any problem finding the parking lot that sits right across the street from Springfield Falls. The parking lot, however, is small.
Once you cross the street, you'll arrive at the 20-foot tall (and 40-foot wide) Springfield Falls.
If you're up for a bit of a challenge, you may also want to make your way to the base of the waterfall. The .01-mile trail is short and sweet, but it will take you down a hill.
Take care as you hike down as the trail can get very slippery. The trail allows leashed dogs, and some hikers bring their kiddos along.
As you make your way down to the waterfall, you'll be treated to a variety of sensational views. You'll definitely want to bring your camera with you.
No matter what time of the year you visit, you're pretty much guaranteed some gorgeous views of Springfield Falls.
