This wildflower trail near Pittsburgh offers the perfect way to celebrate spring.
Ohiopyle State Park is a popular destination for many Pittsburghers. The state park, which spans more than 20,000 acres, promises a full menu of activities.
Spend the day biking, horseback riding, picnicking, or whitewater rafting, And, that's just the beginning.
Ohiopyle boasts nearly 80 miles of hiking trails, ranging from easy to very difficult. One hike, in particular, is perfect for a spring adventure.
So, plan a hike along the 2.6 mile Great Gorge Trail that will give you sweeping views of a sea of colorful wildflowers.
Be prepared for a somewhat challenging hike as the trail is considered moderate. But, your efforts will be well-rewarded.
Start your hike at the Cucumber Picnic Area. (Or, have a picnic before setting off.) Travel along the river, crossing over a footbridge or two.
Admire the wildflowers growing along the path and in seemingly endless fields.
And, don't forget to stop at Cucumber Falls, one of Ohiopyle's three waterfalls. Snap photos from above the falls. Or, climb down the stairs to the base of the falls.
