Deer are, perhaps, one of nature's most majestic creatures. We, Pittsburghers, have plenty of opportunities to see them in our yard, at local parks, and wandering in our neighborhoods. And, of course, we've learned how to dodge them when we're driving. This deer farm near Pittsburgh, however, offers an unforgettable opportunity to interact with these beautiful animals.
Less than two hours from downtown Pittsburgh, Double Diamond Deer Ranch promises a unique wildlife experience.
Visitors to the ranch, which opened in 1990, have the rare opportunity to interact with the resident deer and to learn more about them.
Snap photos from a distance. Or, if you visit between June and August, you may just have the chance to bottle feed or to provide treats to the growing fawns.
And, feed the rest of the gang, who sport such names as Prancer, Cupid, Dasher, and Henry. The deer at Double Diamond Deer Ranch are brown, white, and piebald white-tailed deer.
Of course, you'll also meet the other animals at the farm like the rowdy roosters and...
A sleepy kitty as you explore the ranch, which has had three generation of deer families.
Kids aching to run around and play? Then, let them explore the police car, firetruck, and other vehicles at the park.
All day admission costs $8 per person. Children four and younger are free.
The deer typically "drop" their antlers during the winter, when the ranch is closed to the public.
Double Diamond Deer Ranch welcomes guests daily from 10 a.m. to dusk from Memorial Day to October 31. The park is also open on Saturdays and Sundays in May and November.
