Pennsylvania is full of geological wonders, and the area around Philadelphia is no exception! Just about an hour away from the City of Brotherly Love is an incredible, unique field of boulders. At first, they look just like stones, but when you find out their musical secret, you will be amazed.
Ringing Rocks County Park is located in Upper Black Eddy, PA, and it is home to an eerie field of "ringing" stones.
Depending on where you live in Philadelphia, this geologic oddity is only about an hour to an hour and a half away. Click here for directions.
Follow the trails through the park and cross a beautiful stone bridge to get to the stone field.
Ringing Rocks Park is a great place to plan a day in nature - pack a picnic, as there are plenty of places to relax.
The park is even home to the largest waterfall in Bucks County!
You'll reach the waterfall at the end of the trail. It's an impressive display of nature, and it's super pretty beneath the fall foliage and when it is frozen in the winter.
But the real draw to the park is its namesake - the Ringing Rocks Boulder Field.
It may just look like a regular old field of rocks, but bring a hammer along with you and you'll discover something absolutely phenomenal; striking them produces an unusually melodic ring!
There's no known scientific explanation for why they ring like bells.
Normal boulders clunk. These rocks are musical! Well, most of them are; some are considered "dead" and you'll just hear a dull thud when your hammer hits them.
The majority of the boulders chime like a bell when struck - and it's one of the oddest geological wonders in the world.
