A day at the beach, especially one of the larger ones, usually means a lot of other people had the same idea as us. Fortunately, plenty of smaller, more remote beaches are sprinkled around the state. Enjoy a traditional beach day, without as much of the hustle and bustle of a larger beach, at this remote beach in Clarendon, Pennsylvania.
Flanked by Allegheny National Forest and state game lands, Chapman State Park tallies a cozy 862 acres, including its crowning jewel - the 68-acre Chapman Lake.
A sandy beach leads straight into the refreshing lake water, an idyllic spot to stay cool during those scorching summer days.
If you feel like being a little further from the water, stake your spot on the lush grass behind the sand. There is plenty of room to sprawl out with your beach towel and umbrella.
Don't worry if you're not bringing a picnic. Just stop by the concession stand and grab a bite and a drink.
But the lake isn't just for swimming. Explore in a kayak, a canoe, or a boat.
The rest of the park is worth exploring too, especially if you have the time. Slip on a pair of hiking shoes, and check out the 14 miles of trails that wind through the park.
Or you can go biking. Most of the park's trails allow bikers.
All the fun that awaits at this remote beach in Pennsylvania means just one thing: A day simply isn't enough. Make it an overnighter by booking a stay at one of the cottages or yurts.
