With 121 state parks dotting the Pennsylvania landscape, we have a ton of outdoor space to explore. (That doesn't even take into account all of the city and neighborhood parks.) Unfortunately, with such an abundance of state parks, we probably miss out on a few of the hidden gems. This underrated state park in Pennsylvania, for example, is well worth a visit and might even become your new favorite outdoor destination.
Spanning 2,000 acres across Wayne County, Prompton State Park offers an idyllic backdrop for a day outdoors - whether it's a scorching summer day or a snowy winter afternoon.
The park's perfect for explorers and those looking to just kick back and relax. If you're up for a picturesque adventure, slip on your hiking boots and hit one of the hiking trails.
Approximately 26 miles of hiking trails meander through the park. The shortest - Sidewinder Trail and Eagle Pass Trail - both span just a mile.
Follow the East Shore Trail, which clocks in at 4.5 miles, if you're up for a longer trek.
Prompton State Park is brimming with natural wonders - from waterfalls to Prompton Lake.
The nearly 300-acre lake is popular with boaters and those who enjoy fishing.
Summertime means a ton of fun - picnics and mountain biking, for example. The park also features a disc golf course with 18 holes.
You'll find plenty to do during the snowy days of winter, too. Stop by the park after a fresh snowfall for a day of sledding or cross-country skiing.
