Kayaking allows us to spend quiet time on the water under the golden summer sun or in the cold of winter. It's perhaps one of the most relaxing ways to spend a day in nature. With 2,500 lakes in Pennsylvania, we have a ton of places to go kayaking all year round. However, if you prefer a remote, quiet spot that's drenched with natural beauty, make your way to Prompton State Park in Pennsylvania.
Spanning 2,000 acres across Wayne County, Prompton State Park offers a full menu of activities. However, the jewel of the park just might be the cozy 290-acre Prompton Lake.
While the lake beckons those who love to fish, it also provides an idyllic backdrop for exploring by kayak. (However, you'll have to bring your own kayak as there isn't a rental facility at the park.)
Go to the west shore to find the lake's lone boat ramp to slide your kayak into the shimmering water.
With its striking views of the lush foliage, the lake draws those who want to relax, breathe in the fresh air, and explore.
Paddle past beautiful lilypads and admire the trees - particularly pretty painted in the colors of fall - that frame the lake.
If you're not a kayaker, you can also bring a rowboat (perfect for fishing) or a canoe. You must have a current boat registration displayed if you're operating a motorboat.
While away the day on the water, or save some time to explore more of the park that's dotted with waterfalls and hiking trails.
Bring a picnic along if you plan to spend the entire day. Mountain biking and disc golf are both popular at the park.
Don't forget to visit the park when winter rolls around for a day of sledding or cross-country skiing.
Find a full menu of activities on the official website of Prompton State Park.
