But, one quaint outdoor market in Scranton, Pennsylvania has a unique quality that has helped it remain a community staple since 1939.
The Co-Op Farmers Market in Scranton first debuted on August 1, 1939 as a small open-air market and gradually grew in size and popularity.
Today, the popular farmers market holds the distinction of being the lone outdoor market in Northeastern Pennsylvania that is owned and run by the same farmers who sell their goods there.
The once-tiny farmers market now features 40 permanent stalls with electricity, restrooms, concession stands, and plenty of parking for the visitors who stop by.
Vendors sell a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables, flowers, homemade jelly, and other homemade goodies.
