Around 16 miles of trails, rated between easy and more difficult, meander through the state park that's home to forests and...
An enchanting covered bridge. Cross Colvin Covered Bridge, a throwback to yesteryear, along the 1.2-mile Colvin Loop Trail.
The Pennsylvania covered bridge, which passes over Shawnee Creek, dates back to 1894. If you enjoy fishing, drop a line in the creek.
As you're exploring, you'll likely cross paths with a variety of wildlife, including deer, squirrels, and rabbits.
Plan to spend at least some time near the 451-acre Shawnee Lake, considered by many the gem of the state park. Sunbathers and swimmers flock to the lake, which boasts a sandy and turf beach, to cool off during the summer.
The beach is open seasonally from the end of May until early September.
While you can take to the water for a day of boating when the conditions allow, you'll only be able to rent a canoe, kayak, rowboat, or paddleboat at the park's concession during the summer.
Biking and disc golfing are also popular at the park.
Bringing the kiddos along? Kick back and relax while they burn off some excess energy at the playground.
If you don't feel like snagging a picnic table at one of the pavilions, find one of the others scattered throughout the park.
Don't limit your visit to the warmer months, either. Bundle up for a day of snowy fun, visiting for a day of sledding, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, and ice skating.
