On the lookout for a fun yet easy way to spend an hour or two, to breathe in the fresh air, and to get a bit of exercise? Pile the whole family into the car for a refreshing hike to Nay Aug Falls in Pennsylvania, which boasts plenty of surprises around every corner. However, that's just the start of your adventure in the park that's also home to swimming pools, picnic areas, and two playgrounds.
Tucked in Nay Aug Park near Scranton, the picturesque Davis Trail promises more than its fair share of surprises along the way.
Best of all, the two-mile trail is rated easy, making it perfect for hikers of all ages and of all skill levels. Just make sure you wear comfortable shoes as the trail can get muddy after a rain or a snowfall.
One of your first surprises is a beautiful treehouse, from which you can drink in beautiful, expansive views. Don't forget your smartphone or camera.
Please note: If you hike the Davis Trail in the winter, you won't be able to experience the treehouse. It is closed during the winter months.
As you stroll along the relatively quiet path, you'll come across several overlooks and enjoy aerial views of the railroad tracks that pass by the park.
Dogs are permitted on this scenic trail. Just make sure you keep your pooch leashed at all times for both her and other hikers' safety.
You might just hear the gush of Nay Aug Falls before it comes into view. The spectacular waterfall, tucked in a gorge, drops a spectacular 15 feet.
While you aren't allowed to swim in the pristine pool of water at the bottom of the waterfall, you can cool off in one of the park's two Olympic-size pools in the summer.
