Let's be honest. Most people wouldn't consider Pennsylvania a tropical spot. The state certainly does have its fair share of hidden sandy beaches, and if you find yourself Googling "top beaches near me in Pennsylvania," you will get some results, albeit ones by lakes or rivers. But, if we close our eyes as we dig our feet in the warm sand at one of these beaches, we feel as though we're a million miles away, on a tropical beach leading straight into the ocean. Even better? Some of our beaches - like this Pennsylvania beach with clear, cool water - take us into a refreshing lake where the shimmering water is absolutely clear and tranquil.
Start making plans for a leisurely day on the sandy beach at Beltzville State Park. It's the perfect way to stay cool, especially during a hot day.
Sink your toes into the soft sand of the 525-foot beach that leads into the cool, mesmerizing clear water of Beltzville Lake.
However, be forewarned that the beach, which does not have lifeguards, can get crowded, especially on the weekends. This is one of the best beaches in Pennsylvania, so it's no surprise it draws such crowds.
Enjoy a picnic lunch as you admire the shimmering water. Or, grab a light meal or snacks at the concession stand, open annually from Memorial Day to Labor Day.
At the end of your time on the beach, head to the nearby bathhouse for a refreshing shower.
After your day on the beach, explore the rest of the 3,002-acre state park. Spend a little more time on the water, this time aboard a kayak, a paddle boat, or a pontoon boat.
Or, hit one of the scenic hiking trails. In all, there are more than 15 miles of trails winding through the park. Admire Wild Creek Falls along the aptly-named Falls Trail.
Other popular activities at Beltzville State Park include mountain biking and wildlife watching. You can also visit in the winter for a bit of cross-country skiing.
Not only is this one of the best Pennsylvania beaches, but there's so much else to do here, too!
