A day at the beach is often just what we need to cure whatever's bugging us - stress, anxiety, or even that latest bout of wanderlust. When we think of beaches in Pennsylvania, most of us probably think of the 13 at Presque Isle State Park. If we look hard enough, we might find a few gems we don't know about, like this hidden gem beach in North East, Pennsylvania, that's perfect for sunbathing, swimming, and enjoying the beautiful views.
If you want to escape the crowds that flock to Presque Isle State Park's pristine beaches, set your GPS for Halli Read Park in North East.
North East sits about 20 minutes from Erie.
Considered by many a hidden gem, this Lake Erie beach offers an idyllic setting for a relaxing day outdoors, whether you want to cool off on a hot summer day or admire the waves on a chilly winter afternoon.
It's busiest during the summer.
The highlight of the park is, undeniably, the sandy and rocky shore that leads into the cool waters of Lake Erie. Lifeguards keep watch during the summer between noon and sunset.
However, before you venture into the lake, keep a few of the park's rules in mind. Swimming is only permitted in marked areas, and inflatables are not allowed in the water.
Searching for sea glass is a popular pastime at this hidden gem beach. Taking sand or rocks with you, though, is prohibited.
Even if you don't feel like going into the water or if it's a bit chilly, you'll find plenty to do at Freeport Beach. Relax on one of the benches; play an impromptu game of beach volleyball, or have a picnic.
Watch as the little ones see if they can kick high enough to reach the clouds on the swings; the playground promises plenty of old-fashioned fun.
