Can anything really compare to chasing waterfalls? We're pretty fortunate to live within easy distance of some pretty breathtaking waterfalls - from two Buttermilk Falls (Indiana County and Beaver County) to Fall Run Falls, right here in Allegheny County. If you've seen all of the big-name waterfalls in the area, you might want to follow this beautiful trail that leads to a gorgeous hidden waterfall near Pittsburgh.
Ohiopyle State Park is perhaps best known for the well-known and beloved Cucumber Falls and Ohiopyle Falls, but did you know it's also home to a hidden waterfall?
To find the hidden Jonathan Run Falls, follow the 3.7-mile Youghiogheny River Trail that's also dotted with a series of smaller waterfalls. (Don't forget your camera for this one.)
The out-and-back trail has earned an easy rating, making it one that's good for the little ones and dogs. (Just remember to keep your pup leashed at all times.)
You'll definitely want to wear a pair of comfy shoes, and be prepared for muddy conditions if you're visiting after a rainfall or a snowfall.
During the hottest days of summer, you'll quickly discover the tree-lined path provides some much-needed shade from the sun.
Along the way to Jonathan Run Falls, you'll pass the stunning 20-foot Sugar Run Falls.
Jonathan Run Falls follows, cascading down just 10 feet. However, the width of the waterfall adds to the simple beauty of the falls.
Take care if you plan to get close to the waterfall. The rocks can be extremely slippery and dangerous.
