As the humidity and heat of summer slowly begin to wane, we turn off the a/c, open the windows to let the crisp air in, and start planning our fall activities. Fall in the Burgh is the ideal time to explore - whether it's local farms for their traditional fall festivals or area parks bursting with the rich colors of fall. For one of the most beautiful hikes in the city, set off on this picturesque trail in Pittsburgh that's sure to get you in the mood for autumn.
Carve time out this autumn for a visit to Frick Park, sprawled across 644 lush acres.
Of course, the park is an idyllic spot for playing a few rounds of tennis, heading to the bowling green, or watching the kids at the playground.
But, to experience what really makes Frick Park so special, embark on one of its picture-perfect hiking trails.
The Frick Park Trail Loop, for example, will give you quiet time among nature without leaving the city.
So, lace up your comfiest shoes for this five-mile trail that will lead you through a forest of vibrantly-colored trees against an autumn sky.
The trail, rated moderate, appeals to hikers (and walkers) of all ages and skill levels. In fact, you might even want to bring your pups along for the adventure.
Listen as the leaves crunch beneath your feet. And, keep an eye out for cyclists, who also use the park's trails.
