The pandemic certainly has turned life upside down. Summer will look a lot different this year than in previous years, but that doesn’t mean we can’t still pack our schedule with fun activities while adhering to social distancing guidelines. A trio of Allegheny County Parks, in fact, recently announced that it will hold drive-in movies throughout the summer.
Cinema in the Park, a popular summer event, may have been canceled for the 2020 season, but that doesn’t mean we still can’t go to the movies all summer long. We can - at these three Allegheny County Parks.
Hosted by Dollar Bank and Allegheny County, the films will be shown on two separate evenings. One night is set aside for family-friendly movies while the other is called date night.
Boyce Park in Monroeville, South Park, and Hartwood Acres Park in Pittsburgh will all show movies this summer from July through September.
Drive-In Movie Night At The Park offers free admission, although there will be a limit to the number of cars allowed. (That number will be released closer to the first drive-in movie.)
The first free family movie, “Sonic the Hedgehog,” is set for July 7, 2020 at Boyce Park; July 9, 2020 at South Park, and July 11, 2020 at Hartwood Acres Park.
Films will then be shown weekly and include such titles as “Moana,” “Frozen 2,” and “Trolls World Tour.”
Date night will take place at South Park and Hartwood Acres, with the first week kicking off on July 10 in South Park and on July 17 in Hartwood Acres. The first film of the summer will be “Knives Out.”
“Dirty Dancing,” “Bohemian Rhapsody,” and “Crazy Rich Asians” are also on the summer schedule. The season caps off in early September with “Grease.”
