Hidden just 20 minutes from Downtown Pittsburgh, Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve promises tranquility among nature, making it an ideal destination.
Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve, which serves as the Audubon Society of Western Pennsylvania's headquarters, offers visitors five miles of trails to explore.
The nature reserve spans 134 acres in the Fox Chapel neighborhood of Pittsburgh, welcoming visitors daily all year around. Wear a pair of comfy walking or hiking shoes, and bring bottled water for your...
...trek along one (or more) of the nature trails. The Toddler Trail, the shortest trail at just 0.11 miles, will take you to up hills and along the shimmering pond.
If you're visiting on a balmy summer evening, follow the Upper Fields Trail, at just a quarter of a mile. Here, you'll have the best chances of seeing lightning bugs.
Don't forget to keep an eye out for local wildlife too — from rabbits in the meadows to turtles swimming in the pond.
If you prefer to just relax, slip onto one of the benches, and enjoy the scenery.
Set off on the nature trails at Beechwood Farms Nature Reserve, open daily from sunrise until sunset. If you want to check out the Audubon Nature Store, stop by Tuesday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
