1. Cherry Springs State Park – 4639 Cherry Springs Road, Coudersport, PA 16915

Cherry Springs State Park boasts the clearest and darkest view of the nighttime sky on the eastern seaboard. The cozy state park beckons both aspiring and professional astronomers. Spend a few hours stargazing at the Night Sky Viewing Area. Or, stay overnight at the Astronomy Observation Field.

2. Hyner View State Park – 86 Hyner Park Road, North Bend, PA 17760

Drink in absolutely breathtaking views of the West Susquehanna River hugged by a forest of trees. The scenic overlook provides the perfect spot for a picnic, to take photos, and for hang gliding.

3. Ricketts Glen State Park – 695 State Route 487, Benton, PA 17814

Pure natural beauty – and 22 spectacular waterfalls – awaits at Ricketts Glen State Park. Hike along the nearly eight mile Falls Trail to see 21 of the waterfalls, including the largest Ganoga Falls at 94 feet. The park itself features 26 miles of hiking trails.

4. Hawk Mountain – 1700 Hawk Mountain Road, Kempton, PA 19529

Discover unspoiled natural beauty at Hawk Mountain Sanctuary. The sanctuary, which requires an admission fee for all visitors, features programs, events, and hiking trails. Embark on the Lookout Trail, for example, that will lead you to the North Lookout for spectacular views from atop the mountain.

5. Salt Springs State Park – 2305 Salt Springs Road, Montrose, PA 18801

Walk along a wooden boardwalk, protected by towering trees, at Salt Springs State Park. The state park boasts 300 year old hemlock trees, picturesque waterfalls, and its very own Stonehenge. That’s right. Visitors create – and leave – their own mini stone creations in the park.

6. Austin T. Blakeslee Natural Area – 20 PA-115, Blakeslee, PA 18610

For truly spectacular natural beauty unspoiled by society, visit the Austin T. Blakeslee Natural Area. Spanning only 130 acres, the cozy protected area is brimming with beauty. Marvel at the stunning pools of water at Tobyhanna Creek, the gushing waterfalls, and the quaint footbridges. Hiking and fishing are both popular activities at the natural area.

7. Bake Oven Knob – 7705 Bake Oven Road, Germansville, PA 18053

Stand at the highest point in Lehigh County when you visit Bake Oven Knob. A short walk from a parking lot, the scenic overlook promises sweeping views of Lehigh County. Admire the brilliant fall foliage. And, keep an eye out for hawks, who live nearby, flying overhead.

8. Pine Creek Gorge – Watson Township, PA 17740

Pennsylvania lays claim to its very own Grand Canyon, more commonly known as Pine Creek Gorge. The breathtaking gorge spans 50 miles and measures a stunning 1,000 feet deep. Enjoy panoramic views of Pennsylvania’s natural wonder from scenic overlooks in Leonard Harrison State Park and Colton Point State Park.

9. Kinzua Bridge State Park – 296 Viaduct Road, Mt Jewett, PA 16740

Stroll across the 624 foot Kinzua Bridge Skywalk where, at the end, you’ll step on a glass floor. Look down 225 feet for stunning views of the park floor. The skywalk also promises sweeping views of the state park, particularly breathtaking against the vibrant colors of fall.

10. Erie Bluffs State Park – 11100 W Lake Road, Lake City, PA 16423

Step atop the 90 foot bluffs at Erie Bluffs State Park for unspoiled views of Lake Erie. The cozy state park spans less than 600 acres, the majority of which remain undeveloped. Fishing and boating are permitted at Elk Creek, only one of two developed areas in the park. The other developed area is the parking lot at the Main Entrance.
