Summer’s moseying right along, bringing with it scorching days, refreshing thunderstorms, and tons of fun. One of the best ways to spend those hot, sun-soaked summer days is lying on the beach, then taking a dip in a cool lake. Promised Land State Park in Pennsylvania boasts two sandy beaches, making it the perfect summer destination.
Set off on a relaxing summer adventure at Promised Land State Park, in Greentown, that’s home to two sandy beaches and a ton of other amenities.
If you want to be near the concession stand, you’ll definitely want to stake out a spot on the main beach, near the Day Use Picnic Area.
For a bit quieter experience, head over to Pickerel Point Beach. Both sandy beaches lead straight into Promised Land Lake or Lower Lake, making it easy to stay cool all day long.
The beaches are open daily from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. from late May through early September. Neither has a lifeguard and both require all children 10 and younger to be with someone who’s a minimum of 14 years old.
Both of the beaches can get crowded, especially on weekends. If you need a break from the crowds, explore some of the 3,000-acre park, which boasts 50 miles of trails, a picnic area, biking, and horseback riding.
You can also spend time on one of the lakes if you’re up for a water adventure. Rent a canoe, a kayak, a paddleboat, or a rowboat for a day of exploring the water.
If a day at the park simply isn’t enough, reserve a camping spot for the evening. Camping accommodations include rustic cabins and cottages, or you can pull into an RV spot.
