Have you ever just stopped during a busy day, taken a deep breath, and listened to the birds? For me, there's just something so comforting about the melody of the birds early in the morning or as I'm sitting outside for a bit of quiet during a busy day. One of the best places to see native birds is at the John James Audubon Center in Pennsylvania, where we can meet some of the resident birds and see others as we explore on a scenic trail.
If it's your first time visiting the John James Audubon Center in Mill Grove, you might want to start at the Visitor Center and Museum to learn more about the birds of Pennsylvania.
Check out the official website of the Audubon Center Visitor Center and Museum for its current hours and admission prices. Annual passes are available.
Start by becoming - well, sort of - a bird when you're banded. Once you've got your band, go from station to station where you'll learn about the type of bird species you've picked. Stations are interactive, making learning fun for visitors of all ages.
Spend some time exploring the other exhibits that include the sounds of various bird species and a migration map.
Dress for the weather, so you can wander along one of the nature trails that meanders through the 200-acre property. First, though, stop by the barn, where you can meet some of the Audubon Center's residents.
Say hello to and snap photos of Conrad the blue jay (pictured below), Oden the great-horned owl, and CC the rock dove.
If you have the time, you might want to explore all five miles of trails.
As you stroll along one of the nature trails, keep an eye out for one of the dozens of bird species that live here. Depending on the season, you may spot wild turkey, osprey, bald eagles, red-shouldered hawks, and pileated woodpeckers.

You might even cross paths with other wildlife, including deer, during your walk.
The Audubon Center hosts free bird tours on Saturday mornings and educational programs for kids.
If you visit when the Historic House is open, join a guided tour of John James Audubon's first home in the United States.
