Dust off your hiking boots. Or just slip on your comfiest shoes. You're in for a relaxing experience as you meander along this wildflower hike in Pennsylvania. Once you've finished the easy hike, stay a while and explore this expansive state park tucked away in the northern section of York County.
Gifford Pinchot State Park is a playground for outdoor and nature lovers.
Spanning more than 2,300 acres, the state park and its 340-acre lake promise plenty to do. Spend the day biking, playing disc golf, swimming, or horseback riding.
And, don't forget to embark on the half-mile Alpine Trail. The easy hike will lead you along a sea of colorful wildflowers.
Hit the gravel trail in April and May for mesmerizing views of the blossoming flowers that include marsh marigolds and bluebells.
The quaint trail starts at the Conewago Day Use Area. Or, if you prefer a challenge, embark on the half-mile Midland and Fern Trails. Both feature spectacular views of the wildflowers.
Don't forget to watch where you walk. You just might run into some of the park's residents, including tortoises, deer, and butterflies.
Keep seeing goats munching on overgrowth? Don't worry. That's their job in the park.
So, are you ready to set out on the Alpine Trail? Gifford Pinchot State Park is open from sunrise to sunset all year around.
