Oregon's fall foliage is in its full glory right now, and you don't want to miss it. Soon enough, we'll settle into winter, which means foggy, rainy days in the western part of the state, and cold, deep snow in the eastern part, so get out there and do some leaf-peeping! Cathedral Park is one of the prettiest places to visit, and when you walk across the St. Johns Bridge, you'll get some gorgeous views.

Portland's Cathedral Park encompasses 23.31 acres in the northwest part of the city. Snuggled right on the banks of the Willamette River, the park is a popular spot for recreation and photography.

The crown jewel of the park is the St. Johns Bridge, a stunning 2,067-foot suspended bridge that spans the river, providing a route for vehicles on Route 30.

Completed in 1931, the bridge inspired the name of the park due to its Gothic-style arches carved into its supports. When it was completed, it was the longest suspension bridge west of the Mississippi.

To see some of the most beautiful views in the city, take a stroll across the bridge. You'll have a great view of Mt. Hood from here.

The St. Johns Bridge is the tallest bridge in the city, giving you an eagle's eye view. The two towers are 400 feet tall; the clearance for navigation is 205 feet.

The vibrant hues of autumn fill the park below. Get a gander at these leaves before they're gone - they don't last long!

On a clear day, you can see the rich colors of the autumn leaves on both sides of the river, but even on a foggy day, the leaves are still gorgeous, providing a splash of color agains the pale, grey fog.

A visit to Cathedral Park and a stroll across the St. Johns Bridge is perfect year-round, but it's particularly compelling during autumn months. Plan a visit before the season's over.

During its dedication ceremony in 1931, David B. Steinman, the engineer responsible for the project, said, "A challenge and an opportunity to create a structure of enduring beauty in the God-given wondrous background was offered us when were asked to design the bridge. It is the most beautiful bridge in the world we feel." We couldn't agree more.
