Here in Oregon, we're mad for marionberries. These berry delicious little hybrids were actually invented in Oregon, and we simply can't get enough! You can find marionberries on the menu at many Oregon restaurants and bakeries, and sold by the pound at pretty much every local farm stand and market. But there's just something special about going out and picking produce fresh from the farm; it's an empowering and grounding experience that's also just plain fun! Happily, there's a charming little farm on Sauvie Island that offers (among other things) marionberry U-pick, and it's a place you'll definitely want to check out!
Douglas Farm is a 4th generation, family-run farm that's a picture-perfect pastoral paradise.
This Sauvie Island farm is known for their U-pick produce, which includes sweet corn, green beans, raspberries, blackberries, and marionberries.
Not many Oregon farms offer marionberry U-pick, though -- Douglas Farm is truly someplace special!
The farm prides itself on growing and selling the best, most succulent produce.
Each year in mid- to late-June, Douglas Farm opens its fields for Oregonians to pick their own marionberries.
As they ripen, marionberries go through a series of purple hues, first a light aubergine, and then a deeper shade of plum.
You'll know the marionberries are ripe once they turn a deep, dark purple that's almost black.

At this point, Douglas Farm is flush with marionberries, and those who come to pick their own produce will be delighted by the bounty!
The marionberries here are superb: big, beautiful berries bursting with flavor.
But you'll have to act fast -- marionberries like warm weather, but not 'dog days of summer' kind of heat.
Picking marionberries really is something that should be on every Oregonian's bucket list...
...as is visiting Douglas Farm, one of the most winsome little farms in The Beaver State.
Douglas Farm typically opens its marionberry U-pick in June, and the farm posts field updates and other produce picking opportunities on its Facebook page.
