We Oregonians are blessed to live in a state with so many gorgeous wilderness areas and parks. Wherever you live, you're likely to have a variety of options close by for excellent hiking, biking, and walking trails. But it can be challenging to find a park that has great paved trails that are also welcoming for those who want to bring along their pooch. I know that for me, being able to include my dog in my outdoor adventures is always key!
One of the best that offers all this and more is located in Salem. Minto-Brown Island Park is a popular dog-friendly park in our state's capital with mostly paved trails for biking, hiking, birding, and more.
Minto-Brown Island Park is a 1,205-acre natural area in the Willamette River floodplain.
The park is conveniently located near downtown Salem.
According to the City of Salem, "The park is intended to protect and preserve habitat while supporting passive recreation uses at a level that does not adversely impact the natural resources."
As you explore the park, you'll see sloughs, creeks, ponds, wetlands, riparian areas, mixed forests, prairies, Oregon white oak savannas, and open fields.
Lots of creatures, such as turtles, fish, and birds, make their homes in Minto-Brown Island Park, too.
Take in the serene beauty as you walk the trails.
I look forward to visiting Minto-Brown Island Park again soon!
For more information about this hidden gem in Oregon, visit the City of Salem website. If your visit to the park includes a drive, you may want to stock up on car-friendly snacks and/or bring a lunch to enjoy at one of the picnic areas.
We'd love to know how you enjoyed your trip to Minto-Brown Island Park, so please leave a comment. Also, feel free to share your favorite off-the-beaten-path, dog-friendly parks in Oregon that we should check out next. We are always looking for new places to explore in the Beaver State.
