Oregon's state parks are each special in their own way, and all have plenty to offer when it comes to outdoor recreation. There's a park in central Oregon that features a gorgeous lake, and in the spring and fall months, rangers offer kayak tours. For a unique look at this park, you'll want to sign up!

The Cove Palisades State Park is a little gem on the banks of Lake Billy Chinook in central Oregon.

The park encompasses 4,402 acres, and it offers tons of recreation opportunities. The 800-foot-high cliffs surrounding the lake were carved by three rivers over thousands of years.

You'll find two campgrounds, each offering flush toilets, hot showers, paved parking, pet areas, and more.

The Cove Palisades Resort and Marina offers houseboating, waterskiing fishing, and boat rentals.

Take a hike, take some photos, and take in the incredible views.

Billy Chinook Falls takes a stunning 160-foot plunge off the cliff to Lake Billy Chinook below.

You might also catch sight of some wildlife here. This high desert location is home to many birds, fish, and animals.

Every spring and fall, Cove Palisades offers a unique ranger-led kayak tour. The waters of Lake Billy Chinook are generally much calmer during these seasons, making exploration by kayak easier and more enjoyable.

Tours are offered on 11 dates in April and May, 2019. Tour in a single kayak for $25, or a tandem for $45. Kids as young as 6 may double up with an adult - those who are at least 12 may use a single kayak as long as parents are present.

You'll enjoy a three hour tour of the lake, where you'll learn about the geology of the basalt cliffs surrounding you, as well as the history of the area.

Make sure to dress in layers, as it can get pretty chilly on the water. Bring a snack and a water bottle, along with a hat, sunscreen, and sunglasses.

Spots for these tours are limited, so make sure to reserve your spot online soon.
