Bees are some of the most fascinating insects on the planet. They're responsible for pollinating the plants that we eat. In fact, one-third of the world's food supply is pollinated by bees, so we literally couldn't live without them!
Visit Bee and Bloom to become a beekeeper for a day, and see what all the buzz is about. During this fun adventure, you'll suit up in a beekeeper's suit and hat, then head out to the hives.
Your host will show you the hive up close and tell you about some of the 300 bee species that live right here in Oregon.
You'll see the busy bees working away inside. Different honeybees have different tasks. While some bees go out and collect nectar to make honey, others repair and clean the hive, act as nurses, and attend to the queen.
Learn about how bees make honey, and get a close-up look at a rack full of honeycomb. This full rack weighs about eight pounds.
If you're interested in keeping a hive in your own back yard, the folks at Bee and Bloom can give you advice and help you learn the ropes so you can bee the best beekeeper you can bee.
When you're all done visiting with the bees, you'll enjoy a honey and cheese tasting with a beautiful river view.
Bee and Blooms' beekeeping adventure lasts three hours, and is open for guests ages eight and older.
