How would you like to take a hike or visit a park while experiencing almost complete solitude? Well, luckily there are plenty of places to feel like you're completely away from it all in the Sooner State. So, how about spending time at one of the quietest trails or parks in Oklahoma this month? I don't know about you but that sounds like a great idea to me! Here are a few for you to consider:
1. Saxon Park
Spend a peaceful afternoon by taking a stroll or a jog along the loop trail at John H. Saxon Park in Norman, Oklahoma. The trail is 1.8 miles in length and you can bring your pup as it is very dog-friendly. And keep your eyes peeled for wildlife as you explore this tranquil park.
2. Wintersmith Park
Created in the 1930s, Wintersmith Park is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and seems to have it all — a lake, trails, recreational sports courts, and even a historic lodge. Spend an afternoon enjoying all that this 150-acre park has to offer and you'll feel good as new again after some well-spent time outside!
3. Haven at Box Canyon Hinton
Let the Haven at Box Canyon be your own little haven as you enjoy solitude in nature. The secluded 155-acre private property offers cabins, but you can visit just for the day for a nominal fee of $5 per person. Take a hike along the 5.4-mile loop trail and you will discover old wagon trails, sandstone stairs, a canyon, and some of the best views in the state.
4. Medicine Park Black Trail
Located in the peaceful town of Medicine Park, Oklahoma is the peaceful Medicine Park Black Trail. A moderately challenging 2.5-mile loop trail, the rocky terrain is perfect for mountain biking as well as hiking, so wear a good pair of hiking boots or shoes when you come here. And the lack of crowds on this trail will make this trail your new favorite way to escape reality for a couple of hours.
5. Cedar Lake Trail
This 2.8-mile easy Cedar Lake Trail within Ouachita National Forest is a quiet nature getaway, especially for those who love wildlife and birdwatching. There's a forest to explore and a lake to see along the way as well. Keep in mind that there is a small permit fee, so make sure you have some cash on hand to pay.
