With so many state parks to choose from in the Sooner State, it can be overwhelming when choosing which ones to visit. Sure, you have your big ones that draw in thousands and thousands of visitors every summer, but there's a lesser-known one in southern Oklahoma that should be on your summer bucket list. It's a gateway to the stunning Ouachita Mountains and is a haven if you love the outdoors.

Lake Wister State Park is located near the border of Arkansas and Oklahoma at 25567 US Hwy 270 in Wister.
The park features over 3,000 acres at the base of the Ouachita National Forest in southeast Oklahoma.
Stop into the park office and gift shop for any information you might need during your visit. It's a cozy little building with rustic charm near the entrance of the park.
All you mini golf lovers, test your skills on the miniature golf course before heading out to explore the park.
And if you visit during the summer, get wet in the big water spray park.
There are 20 beautiful camping spots in the state park and over 100 more RV sites.
Many of which are located right on the lake.
The tall trees provide ample shade and the surrounding views of the mountains and lakes make for a serene setting.
On top of all this, there are plenty of hiking and walking trails to keep you moving.

If you want to stay overnight but don't want to camp, they also offer cozy cabin rentals that can accommodate up to six guests.
