There's plenty of hiking opportunities all across the Sooner State, but not all of them can deliver an adventure like Roman Nose State Park Trail. It's beautifully located on a canyon bluff, overlooking ancient mesas, and full of spectacular places to discover. Check out this incredible hidden gem in northwestern Oklahoma:
Roman Nose State Park is one of the original seven state parks in Oklahoma. It's located in Watonga, just 70 miles northwest of Oklahoma City at 3236 South Highway 8A.
The trail is a 6.3 mile lightly trafficked loop that is rated as moderate. It's open year-round, and every season is just as beautiful as the next.
The hike features towering cedars, a lake, creeks, waterfalls, buffalo grass, and more.
It consists of four interconnected trails, including bridges, walkways, staircases, and dirt paths.
It's a great trail to explore because you never know what you'll find around the next corner.
Like this enchanting waterfall tucked away in a little cave.
And if you catch it when the weather is cold enough you'll see it with ice formations dangling from its roof.
There's even more waterfalls hidden in the gorgeous trees. This spot is a great place for a picnic lunch or water break.
The trek around this park will take you past Lake Watonga, along bluffs, and through diverse terrain.
Plus, you'll get to make your way through an enchanting staircase that looks like something from Tolkien's "Middle Earth."
Roman Nose State Park Trail is full of adventure and the perfect place to go to get away from it all. Plan a day (or overnight) trip to this adventurous state park for a hike unlike any other.
