For a hike unlike any other in the state, head to Fairfax to Gloss Mountain State Park. There's a stairway that will take you to the top of the mountain where you'll see a 360 degree view of some of the most unusual and spectacular topography in the state. Keep scrolling to see where this magical adventure leads you.
Gloss Mountains are some of Oklahoma’s most unique jewels and this hike takes you right to the rim of Cathedral Mountain, where you’ll get a view of some pretty awesome scenery. The selenite that's present here, makes the mountains glimmer and glisten.
There's just one trail at this state park, but it's one you won't want to miss. You'll see the paved trail very clearly from the parking lot - it's just past the pavilion.
You have to climb a long stairway to get to the top of the mountain. It's not too long but you'll be a little out of breath by the time you reach the top.
The hike is only 1.2 miles, roundtrip - but it's considered moderate because of the elevation change of almost 150 feet.
At the top of the bluff, you'll find several forks branching out to various lookout points. The area is filled with native red dirt and green shrubbery.
The park is open 365 days a year from sunup to sundown. There is no camping in the park so you'll have to enjoy all the beauty in one day.
