Hiding in northwest Oklahoma is Gage Artesian Beach, the state’s largest outdoor swimming pool that is spring-fed from a lake. That's right, there is no chlorinated water. Instead, it has natural, mineral-laden water that's perfect for swimming in Oklahoma.
It was discovered in 1917 when workers were digging for oil but instead found water. Visitors can enjoy the mineral water while jumping off the diving board, sliding down the slide, or floating in the pool.
The natural swimming area is formed from the Artesian Lake in the park and is the size of five football fields. Depths reach up to 14 feet in parts, making it perfect for diving in the largest outdoor swimming pool in Oklahoma.
There is even a high-dive as well as several slides, so kids can stay busy for hours enjoying all the fun. In fact, they may have more fun here than at any of the water parks in Oklahoma.
The swimming hole has cement sides like a pool and a sandy bottom. Sometimes you can even see small fish swimming by.
Gage Artesian Beach, one of the best beaches in Oklahoma, is open Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day weekend, seven days a week from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. The price is only $2 per person and children ages three and under are free. You'll also find a concession stand, so you can easily buy snacks when the family gets hungry.
